Anticipated Hiring Range: $16/hour

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday with some weekends as needed. Can work remotely. Hiring period is approximately May 15 – August 15 for 30 hours per week.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:  This position offers work with NC Growing Together (NCGT), a CEFS initiative working to bring more locally-produced foods into mainstream retail and food service supply chains.

Essential Job Duties: 

This position offers work with the Center for Environmental Farming Systems’ NC Growing Together project. This position will interview current and former apprentices (approximately 30) who have participated or are participating in the 8-week NCGT Summer Local Food Supply Chain Apprentice Program. Interviews can be conducted by phone for former apprentices, and will be done in person at each of the 14 apprentice sites across North Carolina this summer.

The work of the position includes the interview and writing of vignettes for each of the 2017 apprentices, and select vignettes for approximately 8 prior apprentices. Two final products are envisioned: (1) a peer-reviewed research paper that the writer will co-author with the project director which presents and discusses the operation and outcomes related to the summer apprenticeship program, and (2) a public-facing document with photos and vignettes that showcases the program and its participants, including the student apprentices and mentors from the participating businesses and non-profit organizations that host the apprentices.

Minimum Experience/Education:

Enrolled in a B.S. or associates degree program (or already graduated) with evidence of the applicant’s writing skills and ability to conduct interviews and document and summarize findings from these interviews.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

Preferably a student with a sociology, agribusiness or food systems background and some research experience (conducting interviews and/or surveys).
