Anticipated Hiring Range: $15/hour

Work Schedule: 40/hrs/week. Some nights, early mornings and weekend work will be required.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:  The Center for Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS) is a partnership of NC State University, NC A&T State University and the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The Center for Environmental Farming Systems develops and promotes just and equitable food and farming systems that conserve natural resources, strengthen communities, improve health outcomes, and provide economic opportunities in North Carolina and beyond.

Essential Job Duties: 

This position will support the general work of CEFS as well as the specific initiatives: North Carolina Growing Together (NCGT), Rooted in Community Conference, NC Choices Carolina Meat Conference, Community Food Strategies Conference and others. This position will be part of the Events Logistics Team and will participate in the logistics of all CEFS events (about 25 small to med sized events per year and 3-4 being over 500 participants). This position will be part of the Admin Working Group and will support the CEFS Business Manager in supporting all the business functions of CEFS and the 50+ CEFS employees. This position is critical to keep all aspects of CEFS running smoothly.

Job Responsibilities include management of various projects at once and communicating with a wide range of stakeholders and the general public through phone, email and social media. Management of several large listservs will be a daily task. Data entry, administrative duties, financial paperwork and materials management are weekly key tasks. This position is also responsible for CEFS social media updates, listserv updates and generating some in house marketing materials.

Event planning assistance and logistics for all CEFS events will be a large component of this position. Simple yet crucial AV set up for all CEFS events, as well as maintenance and recommendations of replacement schedule of AV equipment is part of this position.

State Travel paperwork, managing and reconciling the Event Team Credit Card, and paying invoices through the state invoice payment system will be a large component of this position. Constant follow up will be required to make sure the paperwork has been processed by the state. This position is about 50% doing active work and 50% processing desk based paperwork.

This position will work under the guidance of the CEFS Business Manager. Assignments will often be delivered remotely from agents in the field via email and candidate will need to prioritize based on upcoming deadlines. Superior organization and time management skills are necessary. Attention to detail, excellent follow-through, ability to think on your feet, and communicate effectively are vital to success in this position. Candidate must be able to hit the ground running, and be ready to jump into a busy team. Only candidates with an exceptional work ethic will be considered.

Schedule: 40 hours per week. Some nights, early mornings and weekend work will be required during events or busy seasons (1-3 per month). Some overnight travel will be required for events. Most events are scheduled a year ahead of time. With certain event blackout dates, schedule is somewhat flexible.

Minimum Experience/Education:

B.S. in Communication, Business Administration, Accounting, Marketing, Sustainability, Environmental Science, Agroecology, Agriculture or related field preferred.
-Students graduating in Spring 2017 will be considered.

Departmental Required Skills:

-Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
-Excellent follow-up, time management and computer and database management skills.
-Must have interest in sustainable agriculture
-Must have excellent work ethic and genuine interest in the work of CEFS.
-Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds and sit or stand or extended periods of time.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

-Experience in a busy office setting
-Experience in an agriculture related field
-Extremely reliable and excellent team player
-Sense of humor and pleasant demeanor is helpful as the events team works long days in tight spaces
