Read the North Carolina Digital Story on Every Child Thrives, “Building Community-Based, Equitable Food Systems in North Carolina Through Farm to Early Care and Education,” about the work, successes and innovation of the Farm to Early Care and Education (Farm to ECE) initiative.
This CEFS initiative works to link early care and education centers to local farmers and improve community access to nutritious foods. Farm to early care and education enhances the health and education of young children by creating systems and experiential learning opportunities that connect children and their families with local farmers and by procuring locally sourced food. All of this work is done through a racial equity framework as Farm to ECE is critical to turning the tide in restoring thriving farmlands and supporting nutrition security in communities of color.
