CEFS Summer Sustainable Agriculture Internship Program Brings Students from Around the World to Goldsboro

Goldsboro, NC – The Center for Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS) is hosting students from across the country and around the world at its Goldsboro research farm this summer.  Twelve undergraduate students from North Carolina, Virginia, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania – and as far away as Brazil, Croatia, and South Korea – will be spending eight weeks in Goldsboro to learn everything they can about sustainable agriculture and community-based food systems.

“The internship program is in its fifteenth year,” explains CEFS’ Internship Coordinator Lisa Forehand.  “It is unique because it combines hands-on farm work with experiences in university research and community-based food systems.  Our interns get a very well-rounded picture of what future careers in sustainable agriculture and community-based food systems could look like.”

Interns, who come from a variety of different backgrounds and disciplines, work alongside university staff and faculty at CEFS’ 2000-acre research farm, as well as with youth and community leaders in Goldsboro.  Their weekly schedule includes field trips to local farms and farmers markets, classroom lectures and discussions, and social events.
