Noah Ashenafi
Noah Ashenafi is an accomplished undergraduate student majoring in nutrition at US Capitol Hill. With a strong desire to bridge the gap between scientific research and community-based initiatives, Noah embarked on the Food-Inspired Resilience & Equity (FIRE) internship with Capital Area Food Network, Wake County’s local food council. Through this experience, Noah harnessed his academic foundation while gaining valuable insights into practical aspects of nutrition, food equity, and community engagement.
Throughout his internship, Noah played a pivotal role in communications and outreach efforts. He skillfully crafted newsletters and graphic design materials, ensuring that Wake County citizens are informed about their local food system. His commitment to inclusivity led him to create resources accessible to non-English speakers, reflecting his dedication to centering equity in all projects. Noah’s engaging approach extended beyond digital mediums; he represented the food council at meetings and community events, fostering connections with stakeholders and minority farmers, and learning from their experiences.
Noah’s internship experience significantly shaped his perspective on the role of science in creating tangible impacts. He learned that community engagement and empowerment are for driving change within the local food system. By translating his research interests into practical initiatives, he demonstrated his ability to create projects that directly benefit the community, focusing on community-building rather than just scientific research. Noah’s internship journey has positioned him as a passionate advocate for food equity, community well-being, and sustainable nutrition practices.
