Join us for a half-day workshop dedicated to the art and importance of seed saving—a practice that ensures a resilient food future, strengthens financial self-reliance, and honors cultural traditions.

This free lecture will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25 at the ECBI Cooperative Extension office, located at 876 Acquoni Rd, Cherokee, NC 28719

Led by Chris Smith from the Utopian Seed Project and Mary Thompson from the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, this interactive session will cover:

  • Seed Saving Basics & Business Opportunities – Learn how to preserve and profit from seeds
  • Live Demonstration – Experience the Utopian Seed Project’s Mobile Seed Processing Unit in action
  • Cultural & Historical Perspectives – Hear from Mary Thompson on seed saving, pottery, and tribal food sovereignty
  • The Future of Seeds – Explore climate change impacts and technical aspects of seed preservation
  • Turning Seeds into Success – Develop an enterprise budget for profitable seed-saving
