Our recent addition to the Shop Safe, Shop Local NC Campaign is the launch of FoodRoute: Southwestern NC, a collaborative project with The Southwestern Commission (SWC) and The Rivendell Farms of the Carolinas, spearheaded by SWC intern Anne Wade. Through surveys, stakeholder engagement, and secondary data, FoodRoute: Southwestern NC is an interactive, searchable on-line, mapping platform designed to enhance and inform the consumers’ experience in the regional food system. This map identifies local food businesses, farms, and markets as well as food pantries and community eating sites. Users can search by specific location, direct-to-consumer farms and markets, and food access resources. Farmers and processors seeking infrastructure support will find a complete listing of resources available. The map also features farms with active Agritourism resources following COVID-safe visiting practices.
