Many cool- and cold-season vegetables grow well in high tunnels during North Carolina’s relatively mild winters. North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University’s Extension Horticulture Team has conducted trials at the University Farm on cut-and-come-back salad greens (baby lettuce mix, mustard greens mix and spinach mix), leafy vegetables (bok choi/pac choy, head lettuce, Swiss chard, collard greens, kale, snow pea shoots) and root vegetables (beets, carrots, turnips and baby radish), kohlrabi, and green onions.

Come join us in person to hear hints for growing the following vegetables:

• Bok Choi and Lettuce
• Collard Greens, Kale, Swiss chard, Snow peas
• Brussel Sprouts, Cauliflower and Broccoli (loose head)
• Carrots, Beets, Turnips and Baby Radish
• Kohlrabi

We will also look at three types of high tunnels and their pros and cons for growing overwinter vegetables:

• Single-bay high tunnels
• Multi-bay high tunnels
• Moveable high tunnels

The team will also discuss its trials of single-layer or air-inflated double-layer poly plastic films.
