Learn More about MeatSuite
MeatSuite provides tools and resources to farmers raising local meat and builds market demand for bulk local meat through consumer education.
Why bulk?
Our research shows that selling local meat in larger quantities, whether as bundle boxes of assorted cuts or larger shares such as whole, half, or quarter animals, benefits everyone. Consumers save money, farmers save freezer space and marketing effort, and processors operate more efficiently with simplified orders.
MeatSuite includes a “suite” of services and tools to aid local farms selling meat:
- Bulk Meat Product Directory: a directory of bulk and bundled meat products sold directly to consumers by farms. Consumers visit MeatSuite.com, search their zip code, find bulk meat products near them, and contact the farm to arrange a purchase. We recommend that farmers review our sign up guide, then create an account and list their bulk products. Available in NC & NY.
- Meat Processor Directory: provides farmers with a searchable directory of meat processors* and mobile processing units available across the state. Available in NC & NY.
- Cornell Meat Price Calculator: aids farms in setting prices for their meat products. Available to all farms.
- Bundle Builder: assists farms in creating and pricing bundles of meat cuts from a whole animal. Available to all farms.
- Cost of Production Estimator: assists farms with an estimation of the cost of product for one animal based on the farm’s own data as well as USDA Census of Agriculture data. Available to all farms.
*Processor profiles are voluntary and target the facilities who process for independent farmers. See a full list of processing facilities in NC.
