WE ARE AN INITIATIVE, NOT A PROGRAM:

The Committee on Racial Equity in the Food System (CORE) is an initiative that hosts supportive programming, but the central purpose of CORE is to provide resources for food systems practitioners to lead their own equity policy and practice formation.  We believe that encouraging confidence in equity work is grounded in relationships.  We encourage sustained community of practice spaces so that people can come together to share ideas, give feedback and tell their stories.  Our In Betweens, hosted once a month for 8 months out of the year, provide a gathering space for those who have completed racial equity training to come together to support one another as we implement process oriented change within our programs, initiatives, groups and organizations.

Our Theory of Change:

We have adopted the 4 Rs of Social Transformation as our Theory of Change.  The 4Rs framework was developed by Jodi Lasseter of the NC Climate Justice Collective.  We believe that by engaging in multiple forms of change work at the same time, honoring all strategies at the same time, we have a profound opportunity to make our food system more equitable and just.

These CEFS programs have made explicit commitments to incorporating CORE principles in their work:
