UPROOT: BIPOC VISIONS OF OUR FOOD SYSTEM ART EXHIBITION
HOSTED EXHIBITION AT NORTHSTAR CHURCH OF THE ARTS BETWEEN JULY 13TH – AUGUST 31ST 2024
Throughout our progression as a society, art has been a medium that narrates conversations around disparities and dreams for the future in an expressive or visual language. Artistic expression has been the centerpiece of Art as Method and was chosen as the emotive voice that communicates an urgent need for more equitable practices in relation to the food system.
In collaboration with DurmPAC, CORE created an exhibition platform for community members and artists to express their perspectives of the current food system and to explore our collective vision of a sustainable, equitable food future.
The summer event series, UPROOT: BIPOC Visions of Our Food System held an Art Call for an accompanying art exhibition that was held between May 15-June 21, 2024. The art exhibition was opened to the public from July 13-August 31, 2024, at NorthStar – Church of the Arts in Durham, NC.
The art call was open to North Carolina-based BIPOC artists and asked the question:
“To cultivate a more equitable food system, what seeds would you sow?”
ARTWORK FROM UPROOT: BIPOC VISIONS OF OUR FOOD SYSTEM
In our commitment to ensuring that equity is found in all aspects of our work, all artist participants were paid an honorarium for their time, efforts, and art pieces included in the UPROOT Art Exhibition.
We thank all of the immensely talented artists who were involved in this art exhibition.
We appreciate all who were inspired by this exhibition to embrace artistic expression as a modality for healing and transformation.
We look forward to more conversations that acknowledge equitable paths and practices around the food system for EVERYONE as we are ALL impacted by its wellness.
