The Cause

North Carolina has lost more than 40,000 farms since 1974, and ranks second in the nation in potential agricultural land lost by the year 2040. With the average age of farmers now 58, it is critical that we support the training and development of new farmers, as well as engage and inspire youth to develop and support the next generation of food system leadership.

THE CENTER FOR ENVIRONMENTAL FARMING SYSTEMS

The Center for Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS) is the Carolina’s leading resource to inspire and train a new generation of farmers and food system leaders. CEFS was established in 1994 and is a partnership of North Carolina State University, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. CEFS’ mission is to develop and promote just and equitable food and farming systems that conserve natural resources, strengthen communities, improve health outcomes, and provide economic opportunities in North Carolina and beyond.

Net proceeds from the Picnic benefit CEFS’ agriculture and food system training programs. Your support is critical to keeping these programs alive and thriving!

Our community will benefit from an improved local food system and better access to healthy, local food.
