Region A Agricultural Opportunities Webinar: Food System Assessment

Through Empowering Mountain Food Systems, the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP) has completed a regional agriculture assessment focusing on local food infrastructure, agritourism, training, marketing and production opportunities. ASAP interviewed numerous local stakeholders, compiled recent census data and included market assessments in the report. The report will serve as a foundational resource for the three- year EmPOWERing Mountain Food Systems project based in the seven southwestern NC counties and with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. The project, funded by the Appalachian Regional Commission, brings together producers, food businesses, schools, and regional partners to increase business opportunities that support the expansion of the food supply chain. Diverse program elements focus on leveraging regional collaboration to enhance the local food economy, including infrastructure development, marketing, business assistance, land matching, training, and other resources to support food & farm entrepreneurs.
